Historic Environment Record

Join the hunt for commemorative plaques and records of tree planting in Chichester and help us publish tree details and photographs online to celebrate these important trees, people and events. Submit your sightings, measurements and photos to document tree plaques for the Historic Environment Record.

What you will need:

  • Tape measure or ruler and a way of noting down dimensions of the plaque.
  • 'Phone or camera - we need a good quality photo of the plaque itself and one that shows it in the context of its surroundings/tree.
  • The grid reference for the plaque, so it can be documented and others can find it too. Use a reliable method to find this with which you're already familiar, or try Grid Reference Finder where you simply right-click on a map to find the grid reference for that point.

We welcome receiving other relevant information, such as original records or publicity relating to the tree planting/history of the tree, by email: info@treesinchi.org

How your information will be shared:

Answers submitted on the Historic Environment Recording Form - Commemorative Tree Plaques (below) will be shared with officers in Chichester District Council responsible for maintaining the Historic Environment Record and will be subject to CDC's Data Protection safeguards. In all other respects, Chichester Tree Wardens' Privacy Policy applies. Chichester District Council's Data Protection information can be found here.

With your permission, we may publish your photographs and description of the plaque/context on our website.
