ChiTrees volunteer form

Curious about Chichester's urban trees? Help us create a record so we can better understand what trees we have where and what they are doing.

Volunteers choose when and where they would like to map trees to fit in with their own interests/time available and the project scope. Recording in pairs is encouraged, and we can help you link up with others to work together, if you wish. New for 2023 - more opportunities for working in groups (programme of dates). If you would like to volunteer (volunteers welcome at any time), please use the form below.

Ongoing 2024

Target: complete inventory of publicly accessible urban trees (subject to volunteer resource) in Chichester City civic parish

Launched: Saturday 18th June 2022 at the University of Chichester campus (2022 pilot)

NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY,

just a love of/interest in trees

Volunteer for the ChiTrees project

Our successful Launch event (18th June 2022) provided a brief introduction to the project and the chance to practise recording trees on the University campus. Volunteers learnt how to plot trees on the project map (predominantly using a smart 'phone app), built skills for identifying trees, and got to grips with how to measure them for this Phase 1 project.

Recording resumed in 2023 with refresher sessions on 16th and 18th May.

Our email archive is available to view here, which also has an automated link to join the e-mailing list for this project (subject to our Privacy Policy). If you do sign up to the e-mailing list by this route, please note we only need email address, first name, last name and submission date (the date you ask to join).

Thanks

to everyone volunteering for this project. We are grateful too for the small grant awarded by Chichester City Council to cover basic expenses for getting our 2022 pilot off the ground.
